BELGIAN CYCLIST TEAM BANS MEMBERS FROM GROWING A BEARD

by Fran O'Reilly September 27, 2017

Professional cyclists riding for a Belgian brand, Sport Vlaanderen are no longer permitted to grow facial hair, as the sporting brand recently launched a new strict 'NO BEARD' ban in place.

Sport Vlaanderen's director, Walter Planckaert created somewhat of a storm with his recent comments after suggesting beards are projected in a negative light, by saying ''I'm taking this measure for the elegance of cycling. We are a cycling team, with professional riders. Not a motocross riders or rugby players. Snot and food leftovers in the beard of a rider in action it nasty''.

Cyclists who ride for the second-tier Professional team will still be permitted to sport a little light stubble, but any rider who is opposed to a full beard ban should find themselves another team to ride for, he also added. Brassy comments from the little guy won't you agree? I mean, I can't think of many, if any other professional sports that find the need to ban beards, maybe that's because there are far bigger fish to fry in the sporting industry, such as anti-doping, fraudulent players and cheaters of the sport to name but a few.

I'm a man who usually rather enjoys going against the grain when it comes to such ludicrous rulings. With beards never being noted as much of a problem for most teams in the industry. It seems a much like a knee jerk decision by their teams directors. I would love to have been a fly on the wall when the meeting for this ruling was first placed on the table amongst their directors, and how they came to the conclusion that this was in fact a great idea. Having a beard does not impact a mans ability to compete in the sport of cycling, or any other sport for that matter, so what's the difference when it comes to cycling alone?

Maybe the truth is the guy once tried to grow a little light stubble of his own and failed miserably, who knows. Your guess is as good as mine.

As always we would love to read your thoughts on this situation, so please be sure to let yourselves be known in the comments section provided below.

And until next time, Beard on Brothers, Beard on...

A woman’s attraction to her counterpart is a direct reflection of her expectations on that person. Whether it is a casual fling, a uncommitted or committed relationship, a woman is going to make the best decision she can based off of her perceived impression or intentions of that man based on their appearance. Ultimately, in a world where a woman has to base her needs on first impressions, just like a job interview, your beard, or lack of beard, may be applying for her next conquest.
