Hello there my fellow beardy Brothers and furry face admirers! It's that time of the week again where i sit down in front of my notebook an write-up a little something for you to get your beard around. This week I'd like to share with you a collection of 5 rather spectacular beard facts! All be it a few strange ones are in the mixer as well. So here we go!
Back in the middle ages it was considered highly offensive to touch another man's beard without permission and often led to grounds for a duel.
It is believed around 55% of men are rocking some form of facial hair. From ''designer stubble'' to a free growing facial forest!
The longest beard in the world title is held by a man named Shamsher Singh from Punjab, India. In 1997 his facial growth measured a whopping 6 ft 2 inches! Prior to Singh a gentleman named Hans Langseth held the worlds longest beard title measuring in at 17 ft 5 in back in 1927. His beard proved that impressive in 1967 it made it's way into the Smithsonian National Museum Of Natural History in Washington DC and remains a tourist attraction to this very day!
On average there are around 35,000 hairs piercing through your skin which form your beard you so proudly sport.
Believe it or not beards were once taxed! Former Emperor of Russia Peter the Great (Yep, that's really what he called himself!) demanded his fellow countrymen were clean shaven. And for those who didn't comply he heavily taxed them 100 rubles per year in place for a special medallion. The medallion then served as license for the beard owner to wear, similar to a receipt as a 'proof of purchase' if you like; which permitted the wearer to beard on freely.
And there you have it! 5 interesting beardy facts just for you! Thanks for taking the time to read! And I'll see you all again next week!
And until next time, Beard on Brothers, Beard on...
